Fiona returns!!!

My baby is home
and her heart is all better.

She's really sleepy, but seems very comfortable. Boy was she happy to see her boyfriend.

I'll take pics later when she's more awake n stuff.

Total cost of the surgery was actually a lot less than I thought, so that was a happy suprise!
FYI, PDA surgery for Fiona was $2350, not including the cardiologist or ultrasound though.
But I thought it was going to be around $4000, so... yay! I was a bit shocked when they told me how much, and they were like "are you ok?"
to which I replied "FANTASTIC!"

Fiona after Surgery pics

Dan and I went to the hospital to visit Fiona

Her surgery finished around 4pm

We visited her around 7pm.

She's doing good, as good as to be expected. She was sleepy and comfortable. Kinda out of it from all the morphine. It was good to see her though, and hopefully seeing us made her feel a bit better.

Get well soon Fiona!

Murmur no more!

Fiona had her surgery today!
It was a tense day for us, lots of worry.

However, her surgery was very successful, they were able to locate and ligate the PDA easily, and now she's resting in recovery.

She still has a chest tube in, to relieve any post-op drainage, but if all goes well she'll come home tomorrow night!

HOORAY!

I'm so happy my baby is all better and will live a normal healthy life :)

We're going to go and visit her later tonight around 8pm, I'll take some pics and post an update.
I still haven't gotten around to posting all the official documentation onto this site, I've been busy and stressed.

But now that Fiona is healthy again, I'll resume my campaign against POMSOURCE.COM and how evil they are!

PDA

We just got home from the cardiologist. He performed an ultrasound, and he confirmed our worst fear...

Fiona has a PDA.

Fiona will need surgery. However, he estimated that her prognosis would be 98% with surgery!! Evidently, after the surgery, she'll be as good as new.

So, we will proceed and get her heart surgery. Probably not this week because of their availability, but definitely within the next month.

This is a hereitable trait, and is congenital. I have all the paperwork from him. I'll scan as soon as I make it into my office to post here.

That means, the breeder is breeding dogs with potential for creating more puppies with PDA's. It also means that this puppy had this problem at the time she was born.

Now that I know her diagnosis for 100%, I'll be pursuing EVERY available avenue to make sure that this breeder doesn't put anyone else through this kind of avoidable heartbreak.

But for now, I'm sooooo happy that Fiona will be ok with surgery!!

Yay!

I found the nicest people on the Internet that have given me GREAT advice on how to spread the word about Pomsource.com and their breeding practices!
I just really hope that they're not allowed to continue shipping out severely congenitally deformed puppies to other unsuspecting buyers!

Thanks to you guys!!

I'll let you know how everything turns out following Fiona's ultrasound on Monday :)

Ultrasound Scheduled!!

Hi everyone!
Fiona went to get her puppy shots and a second opinion from another vet today, and the news was not suprising.
She has a very marked heart murmur, level 4 out of 6.

The vet was suprised at how healthy she is though! So thats a good thing. He was quick to mention that as she grows, this murmur can definitely make her sick. To the point of death. So he urged me to get it checked out ASAP.

So, he referred me to a veterinary cardiologist. I called, and Fiona has an appointment for next Monday. I'm assuming they'll tell me she has a PDA. Both vets told me they thought by the placement of the murmur sounds, that its probably a PDA.

Good thing about PDA's are that they have a surgery success rate of 90%, and that the dogs go onto live healthy normal lives! Hooray!

Bad thing is this whole ordeal is going to cost me a few thousand dollars.

So pomsource people. Please get her parents cardiac certified for breeding. Please. Don't put any unsuspecting trusting buyers of your dogs through this kind of heartache and stress.

There will surely be some sort of legal action I'll take against the breeder. Evil Pomsource people, evil!

To first claim that the puppy was in good health.
Then to send her on an airplane risking her life
Then to tell me that I should put her down because her health doesn't fit into their "contract"
Shame on them.

They obviously aren't dog lovers, or good "Christians".

They just love their money.

But for now, Fiona is fantastic, and while she has a home with me, I'll make sure that she's well taken care of :)

Worried about Fiona..

Fiona's second opinion vet exam is on Monday
and I'm still so worried about her.

My vet told me to keep a close eye on her, and to return to a vet immediately if she showed signs of coughing or collapsing during play....
So, I watch her
A lot :)

And I think she's started coughing. Now, she is a puppy, and acts like a vaccuum around the house... so maybe she just gets fuzz in her throat from time to time, she doesn't have any collapsing episodes.

It's just so painful to have to go through this, and be so worried all the time. I hate those stupid breeders. Assholes.
