Rainy Days

Fiona is doing fantastic these days.
Her heart is as good as new.
I've had a followup ultrasound to make
*sure* that her PDA was completely ligated and it was! Hooray!

I hope Pomsource people don't produce anymore puppies with giant holes in their hearts. Fiona was fortunate to come home with me, but I just worry that there may be dozens of other puppies at Pomsource who are being sold to unsuspecting buyers everyday :(

I just hope that no one has to go through what my familiy and most importantly Fiona had to go through.

Evil, evil, greedy Pomsource.com people.

So many others out there...

There are evil breeders all over the world hurting puppies and families alike in order to make a quick buck.

I found this website, http://www.helpbabymoses.com/, and encourage anyone to help out this family afford their pomeranian's surgery.

It's not easy to come up with thousands of dollars to spend on a pet's surgery, and I highly respect these folks for doing all in their power to fix their furbaby!

I donated, and so should you!

I mean, YOU!

:)

Now an update on my furbaby Fiona.

She's recently taken up rollerblading with Dan. Well, Dan rollerblades and she runs alongside him. Fiona LOVES to run!

Makes me so happy that her heart surgery enabled her to live such a happy, active life.

POMSOURCE.COM IS SICK!

We're living in San Fran for the next couple of months, and she's loving it.
Her health is perfect, and vet's can't even detect that there was ever a giant hole in her heart!

Hooray!

She's the sweetest thing, and extremely healthy. I'm so thankful that I got her PDA ligated!

And to think, the Pomsource people suggested I put her to sleep.
So I thought I'd share some recent photos of my sweet little baby Fiona:

POMSOURCE.COM doesn't even care.

Another posting online made me think of this.

Pomsource.com claims to love all their puppies, however
THEY'VE NEVER ASKED HOW FIONA IS DOING!!

They know that she had a giant hole in her heart that she was born with.
They know she went through open heart surgery to save her life. A life they created flawed.

Never have they ever contacted me, questioned me about her health, said any words of compassion.... nothing.

Goes to show what kind of people they actually are!

BTW
Fiona is doing great. It's been about a month since her surgery, and her murmur is 100% gone. She's a normal, VERY active puppy :)
She's also extremely spoiled!! Her favorite thing ever is going to the dogpark, and swimming in the water bowl! Gratned, at the same time she's swimming, she also is drinking the water. Heh.
Funny little girl!

Update on Fiona!

Fiona is doing so well!!

I can't emphasize how much her energy level has increased since the surgery! She's like a lightning bolt zooming around the house, the park, the yard....

Another funny thing about Fiona is that she LOVES water. When we go to the small dog park, she immediately greets all the other doggies, runs like crazy, then dives into the water bowl and swims around. It's hysterical. I'm so happy for my baby!

I wasn't planning on rescuing another pom, but I guess it was just in the stars. I'm happy to have saved Fiona's life :)

Documentation

So, here is all my documentation for Fiona's PDA that the evil breeders caused. Please, anyone reading this, look through this documentation and realize that I'm doing this as a general service to the public. I want everyone to know what sort of dogs POMSOURCE.COM breeds and sells to unsuspecting buyers.

For all of these documents, to view the document larger, simply click on it!

Fiona's Contract:

Banfield Report:

Cardiologist Receipt for the cardiologist appointment and ultrasound:

Cardiologist Report, this is the most important. In this document the cardiologist says that Fiona's parents gave her the PDA (Fiona's father is breeded ALL THE TIME at POMSOURCE.COM), and it also states that Fiona's heart defect was with her since birth, AND that its completely fixable with surgery!!:

Surgery Estimate:

More receipts to come!!!

Fiona is doing great!

Wow!
All I can say is... WOW!

Fiona is almost completely healed from her surgery!!! She got her stitches out last Friday, and looks a bit bald... however, her murmur is GONE!!!!
Yay!

The surgeon said that this was one of the worst murmurs he's ever encountered. Something which he signed a document saying that Fiona was DEFINITELY born with.

I thought that Fiona acted normally before the surgery, but now I realize just how sick she really was.

Her energy level has gone up 1000000%
It's amazing!
And all the weird coughing fits have completely gone away. Shame on POMSOURCE.COM

I've just begun all the proceedings with the Illinois AG's office, as well as the Illinois BBB. I was wondering from any of you out there in internet land... which news stations do you think I should contact? POMSOURCE.COM is located in southern Illinois..

I'm thinking St Louis... and maybe Chicago?

I just want to spread the word everywhere about these horrible people, people SO horrible they told me to put this little baby to sleep.

I'm so happy that I love all of "God's creatures" unlike Scott and Carol Miller!

Fiona returns!!!

My baby is home
and her heart is all better.

She's really sleepy, but seems very comfortable. Boy was she happy to see her boyfriend.

I'll take pics later when she's more awake n stuff.

Total cost of the surgery was actually a lot less than I thought, so that was a happy suprise!
FYI, PDA surgery for Fiona was $2350, not including the cardiologist or ultrasound though.
But I thought it was going to be around $4000, so... yay! I was a bit shocked when they told me how much, and they were like "are you ok?"
to which I replied "FANTASTIC!"
:)

Fiona after Surgery pics

Dan and I went to the hospital to visit Fiona

Her surgery finished around 4pm

We visited her around 7pm.

She's doing good, as good as to be expected. She was sleepy and comfortable. Kinda out of it from all the morphine. It was good to see her though, and hopefully seeing us made her feel a bit better.

Get well soon Fiona!

Murmur no more!

Fiona had her surgery today!
It was a tense day for us, lots of worry.

However, her surgery was very successful, they were able to locate and ligate the PDA easily, and now she's resting in recovery.

She still has a chest tube in, to relieve any post-op drainage, but if all goes well she'll come home tomorrow night!

HOORAY!

I'm so happy my baby is all better and will live a normal healthy life :)

We're going to go and visit her later tonight around 8pm, I'll take some pics and post an update.
I still haven't gotten around to posting all the official documentation onto this site, I've been busy and stressed.

But now that Fiona is healthy again, I'll resume my campaign against POMSOURCE.COM and how evil they are!

PDA

We just got home from the cardiologist. He performed an ultrasound, and he confirmed our worst fear...

Fiona has a PDA.

Fiona will need surgery. However, he estimated that her prognosis would be 98% with surgery!! Evidently, after the surgery, she'll be as good as new.

So, we will proceed and get her heart surgery. Probably not this week because of their availability, but definitely within the next month.

This is a hereitable trait, and is congenital. I have all the paperwork from him. I'll scan as soon as I make it into my office to post here.

That means, the breeder is breeding dogs with potential for creating more puppies with PDA's. It also means that this puppy had this problem at the time she was born.

Now that I know her diagnosis for 100%, I'll be pursuing EVERY available avenue to make sure that this breeder doesn't put anyone else through this kind of avoidable heartbreak.

But for now, I'm sooooo happy that Fiona will be ok with surgery!!

Yay!

I found the nicest people on the Internet that have given me GREAT advice on how to spread the word about Pomsource.com and their breeding practices!
I just really hope that they're not allowed to continue shipping out severely congenitally deformed puppies to other unsuspecting buyers!

Thanks to you guys!!

I'll let you know how everything turns out following Fiona's ultrasound on Monday :)

Ultrasound Scheduled!!

Hi everyone!
Fiona went to get her puppy shots and a second opinion from another vet today, and the news was not suprising.
She has a very marked heart murmur, level 4 out of 6.

The vet was suprised at how healthy she is though! So thats a good thing. He was quick to mention that as she grows, this murmur can definitely make her sick. To the point of death. So he urged me to get it checked out ASAP.

So, he referred me to a veterinary cardiologist. I called, and Fiona has an appointment for next Monday. I'm assuming they'll tell me she has a PDA. Both vets told me they thought by the placement of the murmur sounds, that its probably a PDA.

Good thing about PDA's are that they have a surgery success rate of 90%, and that the dogs go onto live healthy normal lives! Hooray!

Bad thing is this whole ordeal is going to cost me a few thousand dollars.

So pomsource people. Please get her parents cardiac certified for breeding. Please. Don't put any unsuspecting trusting buyers of your dogs through this kind of heartache and stress.

There will surely be some sort of legal action I'll take against the breeder. Evil Pomsource people, evil!

To first claim that the puppy was in good health.
Then to send her on an airplane risking her life
Then to tell me that I should put her down because her health doesn't fit into their "contract"
Shame on them.

They obviously aren't dog lovers, or good "Christians".

They just love their money.

But for now, Fiona is fantastic, and while she has a home with me, I'll make sure that she's well taken care of :)

Worried about Fiona..

Fiona's second opinion vet exam is on Monday
and I'm still so worried about her.

My vet told me to keep a close eye on her, and to return to a vet immediately if she showed signs of coughing or collapsing during play....
So, I watch her
A lot :)

And I think she's started coughing. Now, she is a puppy, and acts like a vaccuum around the house... so maybe she just gets fuzz in her throat from time to time, she doesn't have any collapsing episodes.

It's just so painful to have to go through this, and be so worried all the time. I hate those stupid breeders. Assholes.

Cardiac Testing

So, I was contacted by another breeder of exotic pomeranians, i.e. blue merles, etc
She told me that in the future, I should ask to see "cardiac certification" for the sire and dame, to help avoid this in the future.
Like most others, she's shocked at how cold, selfish, and downright mean the owners of pomsource.com have been.
In her experience, any reputable breeder would at least offer to refund the puppy purchase amount in exchange for vet bills regarding the congenital defect.

Why are the people at pomsource.com allowed to stay in business?

If anyone has any other suggestions, or helpful hints, please let me know!

I've done all I can think, contacted PETA, the Illinois and Arizona BBB's and the attorney generals for each state.

The heartbreak...

We've had Fiona for 8 days now.
She's truly a joy, very sweet, very playful, very smart.
However

That joy is sometimes overshadowed by the anxiety of knowing that Fiona could be very, very sick.

I'm so angry. I wish this had never happened. I wish we could spend all of our time being completely happy and joyous with Fiona.
Instead, everytime she makes a sound or lies down, I wonder if its normal or a symptom of immenint doom.

We'll probably go ahead and get the cardiac ultrasound, rather than wait a few weeks. It's just so hard waiting. And I hate to think, that what if we wait to long, and we pass by the window to get Fiona treatment.

Unlike her breeders, I couldn't sleep at night if that happened. Just makes me feel sick that her breeders think it is "practical" to destroy her and ship her back in a UPS box to them. So sad.

I'm just so happy to have the chance to give Fiona a fantastic life, home, and chance at a long life.

Email from Pomsource

Here is an email I recieved this morning from Carol Miller at Pomsource.
Take notice of how she doesn't care for the safety and wellbeing of this puppy
My vet stated that this puppy can not fly due to her illness
A fact that I've told Carol Miller many many times
It's seems to be all about the money to her, not the puppy's life

Dear Sarah, I have had some people call me saying you are spreading lies about our business. They know that these things you are saying are untrue, but it is very disturbing to us. All our customers have been so happy and love their puppies. I would like the puppy shipped back as soon as possible. We had no attention of doing anything unfair. Our warranty is inline with almost every breeder we know. I would rather not ship a new puppy to you but refund your money. I also need a letter from your vet stating the exact problem is. Please email us all flight information. Thanks Carol/PomSource

Introducing Fiona Fondue

Here she is, in all her glory.
Born April 13th, 2007
Fiona is a soon to be APR registered pure-bred Pomeranian Pup
See below for her story:

April 2007:

After throwing around the idea of getting a companion Pomeranian for D'artagnan for a few years, Dan and I decided to get a new puppy. I had rescued D'artagnan from a shelter, and this time around I wanted to get the puppy I wanted. The exact sex/color/disposition/breed.

I always felt sad that D'artagnan and I never got to know each other while he was a teeny puppy, so I was looking forward to the puppy experience with a brand new dog.

I had been searching on the Internet for reputable breeders for awhile, and couldn't locate a Pomeranian breeder in Arizona. After emailing back and forth with a few breeders, I found http://www.pomsource.com/
Run by Carol Miller

May 2007:

Fiona was about a month old, and we seemed like a good fit. I got lots of puppy pics emailed, and arranged a payment plan with the breeder, Carol Miller.

We were super excited.

Carol had assured me that Fiona had been to her vet, and that she was declared "perfect".

June 2007:

  • June 18th

Fiona went to the vet for the final checkup in Illinois with the breeder before flying out to Phoenix.

The vet signed the health certificate, and again, proclaimed her healthy.

  • June 19th,

I picked Fiona up from Burbank airpot and flew her back to Phoenix with me. She was adorable, playful, and possessed many many sharp teeth!

Loved her immediately though.

  • June 20th
Pomsource had me sign a contract stating that it was my responsibility to take Fiona to the vet within 48 hours of receiving her. The contract also went onto say that if my vet were to find any defects in Fiona, I would need to ship her back to the breeder in Illinois at my cost, and the breeder would send me another "healthy" puppy.

So, we went to the Ahwatukee Animal Clinic, and the vet found a level 4 murmur. Very serious. It was his opinion that we should wait a few weeks, and if the murmur still exists, take her to a cardiologist for an ultrasound examination (which will cost around $400)

The ultrasound would then let us know if:
  1. the murmur is benign
  2. the murmur is fixable with surgery and/or medicines

However, the vet was very clear in stating that this is a defect Fiona got as a result of bad breeding. Carol Miller actually admitted in an email to me after the fact that she's had at least one other puppy born and sold with a murmur.

Today
So here we are today.
Still waiting to see what Fiona's fate will bring.

I'm in the process of contacting attorney general's, lawyers, and breeding associations.

I'm not doing this out of revenge. I just don't want anyone else to have to go through this kind of heartbreak because of the greed of Carol Miller and her http://www.pomsource.com/ website.

I've contacted Carol Miller
She simply says "sorry" and that if I want a new puppy I need to send Fiona back

However, Fiona is unable to fly with her heart condition.
So, I'm up shit creek.

Carol Miller would prefer to put Fiona at risk of death, just so I send her back to her, so she can try and sell her off to someone else expecting a healthy puppy

Shame on her.
Poor little Fiona. We'll take care of her, good or bad. I think we're entitled to something from the breeder, since she stated that she was a healthy puppy.
